FAMILY AIRLINES FILES FOR DOT APPROVAL

Las Vegas-Based Carrier to Offer Non-Stop Economy Flights Between Large Markets

In the Continental U.S. and Hawaii

Las Vegas, NV — Family Airlines, a new Las Vegas-based carrier, which just filed for DOT approval, will use Boeing 747-400 jumbo jets and a fare structure that significantly decreases the lowest fares offered today by other airlines.

To do this, Family's unrestricted, no-frills economy fare - $19 one way from Los Angeles to Las Vegas and $69 coast to-coast - will be the same for every passenger in similar class seating. This pricing strategy is intended to stimulate additional traffic and to capture a significant portion of the existing market.

Unique to Family Airlines will be a special “family section” for people traveling with children.

Barry Michaels, Family Airlines founder and CEO, explains his business model, saying, “While the primary source of revenue for most airlines is passenger ticket sales the Family Airlines strategy will depend on the development of alternative profit centers to generate additional sources of revenue. “Such alternative profit centers might include in-flight food service, in-flight entertainment, internet and email access. This menu of services will be presented to the passenger when tickets are purchased and will be reserved by credit card.”

While these profit centers are common in the industry, Family Airlines will also take a new approach by selling advertising both inside and outside of the plane. “I believe we can get to the point where advertising revenues exceed passenger revenues,” Michaels says. “I'm a believer that everything you see or touch should be paid for by advertisers. “In addition, cargo and mail transport will represent a significant increase in income with very little increase in operational cost. The uniqueness of the Boeing 747-400 is its ability to carry 100,000 pounds of freight on pallets, along with a full load of 539 economy class passengers in the main cabin and 42 upper class passengers. “We will fully utilize the capacity of the plane.”

Upon DOT and FAA approval, Family Airlines will launch service with a triangular route going from Los Angeles to New York and Miami. In addition to those cities and Las Vegas, service to Orlando, Tampa, San Francisco, San Jose, Philadelphia, Chicago, Dallas, Honolulu and Phoenix will be added within the first year.

“When we are fully operational,” Michaels adds, “eighty percent of our flights will be routed through Las Vegas.

That translates into more than 2.5 million seats to Las Vegas the first year.”

Pending government approval, Family Airlines will be ready to take off by this summer.
